Frequently asked questions
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (or HEIF) is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default since iOS 11. It stores photos at about half the size of JPG, but many apps, websites and Windows PCs cannot open it.
What can I convert HEIC files to?
PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, JPEG XL, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO, PDF. Pick a target after adding your files.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device, so it is safe for private photos, contracts and business data. Once the page has loaded it even works offline.
Is it free? Are there limits?
It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits. Because nothing is uploaded there is no upload size limit either; the only limit is your device’s memory, which matters mostly for very large videos.
Why can’t I open HEIC photos on Windows or upload them to websites?
HEIC needs a separate codec on Windows, and most websites only accept JPG or PNG. Converting to JPG makes your iPhone photos work everywhere.
How do I stop my iPhone saving photos as HEIC?
On your iPhone go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose “Most Compatible”. New photos will then be saved as JPG.
